Hate Me

By Damien Knight

Despise me for my selfish arrogance
Hate that I exist, look down on me
If you hate me, despise me, and be free
Only when you read my poetry and hate
Don’t like me, love me, stay near, leave
Save your heart from the king of misery
Do so before I make a grave mistake
Do it before I fall for the shadows
I know enough to care, to hurt when you go
So hurry, cut the bond before it shows
I’m sorry to say but love him, hate me
