Restaurant Review: El Molcajete

By Damien Knight

Hello everyone, Damien here and this past Sunday I ate out at a Mexican restaurant in the small town of Russellville, Ky. Now I love good Mexican food and I am really picky about it. I entered the place after having heard rumours of its greatness.

First out was chips. Standard fare, the tortilla chips had a wonderful crunch to them, but the salsa lacked the kick I expect in a Mexican restaurant.

We ate a basket and a half of chips by time the food arrived. We had ordered the burrito verde, a chicken burrito with green salsa. It came with rice and a salad. I did not care for the salad and requested an order for a side of refried beans. The burrito was average. It wasn’t overly spicy. The food overall was about a 7 out of 10.

The restaurant itself was well maintained with clean bathrooms. The service was consistent in checking on us. They made sure we had plenty chips and salsa. Over all the place had a good feel and I would likely go again. A total of 8 out of 10 is my rating. If you live in the area or just craving Mexican food El Molcajete is a good spot to eat.

Tiptastic Tuesday! Samurai: Hibachi and Sushi of Bowling Green

This Tiptastic Tuesday is a restaurant review for the Japanese hibachi restaurant Samurai on Scottsville Road. When we went in, we were shocked to find we were the only customers. I think this is because there are two other Japanese places named Samurai on Scottsville Rd. The one we went to was 1713 Scottsville Road, Bowling Green, KY.

We were led to the grill and sat down. I ordered a coke, my son a Dr. Pepper, my daughter a sweet tea. We then looked over the menu. They had a large selection of sushi and informed us they were doing a half off on sushi. I ordered a KY Derby Roll which had crab and shrimp and a Dragon Fly Roll which had eel and shrimp. The kids ordered their kids meal, my son steak, daughter shrimp and I choose a steak and shrimp combo. The waitress took our order and then came back with our soups.

The soup was superb, a clearer soup than at Shogun’s but delicious. The waitress then brings out the sushi and my salad. The wait had not been long, but we were hungry and dived into the sushi. It excellent. The ginger dressing on the salad was just right and not a single sushi remained.

The chef came out and did the standard show. He did a good job and kept us entertained. Once the food was cooked, we dived right in. I would give the place 4 out of 5 stars. It was clean with great staff and good food. The place had an unfinished feel to it though and no other customers. If the décor was improved, perhaps it would be five stars. If you are ever in the area stop in and give them a shot.

Majestic Steakhouse Princeton Review

By Damien Knight

In Princeton Kentucky, there is a small local steakhouse called Majestic Steakhouse. It is a family owned and operated restaurant with a lunch buffet. I was staying in Princeton during the week of the eclipse and stopped by and give the food a try.

I took my kids to eat for the lunch buffet. The lunch was baked chicken with mashed potatoes and rolls. It was good and cooked thoroughly. The service was slow at first but attentive.

After the lunch, we grabbed dessert. This comprised cake and banana pudding. I grabbed banana pudding. It was very much a homemade style pudding heavy with bananas, wafers and whipped crème.

After eating we paid at the counter. The meal was average priced. I would recommend if you find yourself in Princeton, Kentucky to try Majestic Steakhouse. Feel free to check out their facebook page. Majestic Steakhouse

The Great American Donut Shop

by Damien Knight

In Bowling Green, Kentucky just off the bypass is a quaint 24/7 Donut shop, known locally as GADs. On November 21st, 2016 I decided to drop by for donuts and coffee with my children.

My son got a cinnamon roll, his sister a chocolate donut and I a White Chocolate cappuccino and a coconut donut. The shop was ran by a polite young Asian woman. She greeted my kids and served us quickly. The shop was very clean.

The donuts were delicious. The cappuccino was warm and outside very cold. I recommend that if ever in Bowling Green make the Great American Donut a stop.

Riverbanks Zoo Review

I like to go to zoos and where I live there is a zoo nearby. This zoo has a garden, a kids water playground, and a new sea lion exhibit. The sea lion can be seen up close and personal. The Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, South Carolina is a very nice local zoo, and has a little for everybody. The zoo is separated into two parts. One side is the Garden area the other the zoo area. I like to recommend the new sea lion exhibit as a must during the summer months. The seal enclosure is a nice place to cool down after you tour the zoo on a hot day. All the animals have enough room and look well taken care of.

Happy Sea Lions and Seals

After a long walk around I went to the garden area using a small jungle shuttle. I took many nice pictures in the waterfall area. This area looks like an ideal location for wedding settings, or a nice family gathering. The garden area also has an indoor area setup just for this.

After my picture taking I took the shuttle back over to the zoo area walked over to the elephants and took more pictures. I also liked their penguin exhibit. If you don’t mind a few snakes, spiders and bats the reptile exhibit area is cool.

In all this zoo seems to get over looked with the other zoo’s in the area. The Atlanta Zoo is about a three hour ride in the other direction and another one in Asheboro, North Carolina. Riverbanks Zoo is what I would consider my local zoo. I support my local business and took a trip to the zoo in Columbia.

Carolina Ale House Review

By Aaron Knapp

We were headed out for evening dinning and decided to go to the Carolina Ale House. It is a local place with an emphasis on local athletics. We went due to the fact the establishment usually has lots of people parked outside. That day it was close to a four-day holiday and the place was empty. Once we sat down and we put our orders in, a look around showed this was a sports themed bar and restaurant. After a long wait, we received our food. I got boneless wings and sweet potato fries, and a sprite. I am not a big alcohol drinker, so the “ALE” was out of the question, as was the bar area. My wings were BBQ flavored and had a decent amount of sauce on them. The wings were average, but the sweet potato fries were good. Another patronage person on their way out gave our children an Augusta Rock we thanked them and continued our meal. We had other arrangements for the evening, making deserts off limits, and the fact the salad, and meal were plenty for the time being.
In all the restaurant, food, and service were good. If you’re in the area Carolina Ale House may be a viable option for you.
