By Damien Knight
You who light my path
A beacon to my steps
I merely wish to entertain
See you smile in delight.
Darling, you told me to abstain.
I am not a man that obeys.
Alas, it’s not what I write
In suffering, rage, you take away.
No, instead what I direct to you
I don’t mind, feel free, stay.
I never hated you, how could I?
Despite what it seems
I don’t know you, so I cannot despise.
What I do know is an emerald in my eyes.
Here you found not your prince
But a king of pain and shade.
I’m sorry, I plead forgiveness,
I am happy too, well even.
Know my wrath, pain and bitter verse
They are not meant for you.
